With an average of one in six UK workers having a stress-related Mental Health problem at any one time, the total annual cost of British businesses not looking after employees’ mental health is about £34.9 billion (£671 million per week), or just over a cost of £1,300 per employee and 72 million working days per year.
By taking some practical steps to improve management of mental health in the workplace, it’s estimated that employers should be able to cut losses by about a third.
